Interest and investigation are sepsis, acute circulatory failure (circulatory shock) and its treatment, oxygen transport, haemodynamic monitoring, vital emergencies and a special interest in the ethical aspects of intensive care. Prof. Vincent has authored about 700 original articles, more than 260 book chapters and review articles and about 700 original abstracts. He has published 86 books including 62 in his own series. For more than 30 years he is responsible for the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine which is held every March in Brussels. With over 5,000 participants it has become one of the largest meetings in the field. He is also a former President of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the European Shock Society and the International Sepsis Forum. He has received several awards from the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians and recently the Lifetime Medal of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
